Sue has assisted in creating and changing laws in numerous countries, drafted international trade agreements and advised two presidential candidates on international trade matters. Sue was the first chair of the Travis County High Tech Committee, the first chair of the Austin Chamber of Commerce International Group, chair of the Austin In-House Counsel Group, and chair of the Semiconductor Industry Association's legal committee, environmental committee and the World Semiconductor Council. She was a co-founder of the International Business and Law Roundtable and International Business Law Council of Texas, an international representative for U.S. investment, a participant in the World Economic Forum and a participant in the World Trade Organization meetings.

Sue has authored over forty articles and has spoken at numerous group, corporations and organizations. She has worked extensively with public-private partnerships, created the largest state incentive project and was a member of the IES Committee of U.S. National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.

Sue has been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America," Legal 500 publication and Chambers USA listing, and also received a Profile in Power Award from the Austin Business Journal.

Minority and Women-Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) Program

Learn more about our Minority- and Women-Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) Program and the types of certifications that we offer to qualified business applicants.

The City of Austin has an MBE/WBE Procurement Ordinance that encourages bidders and proposers to solicit certified Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MBEs/WBEs) for participation on City contracts. This gives business owners an opportunity to compete on City-funded contracts as a prime contractor, prime consultant or as a subcontractor or sub-consultant. Just to give you an idea of what the City of Austin procured in FY 2011. We purchased goods and services in the amount of $66,088,806 with Minority-Owned Business Enterprises (MBE) and $30,585,166 with Women-Owned Business Enterprises (WBE).

The workshop and the certifications are free to small business owners. Keep in mind that Certification is a marketing tool that gives you exposure to firms who wish to do business with the City; however, it does not guarantee a contract.

She is currently the Director of Inclusion at Indeed, the world’s number 1 job site. In her role, Donna is responsible for leading, developing and embedding innovative global inclusion strategies throughout the organization. Prior to Indeed, Donna led various diversity initiatives at Starbucks Corporation.
Donna has received numerous awards and recognition for the extraordinary results that she has accomplished in the area of niche marketing, branding and global diversity initiatives.

She has been described as a trailblazer, a pioneer, and the “Go-To-Person” in diversity branding since her meteoric rise through the ranks of Wyndham International, where she formerly served as Executive Vice President of Global Diversity & Assistant to the Chairman of the Board and as Vice President of Global Diversity for Nike. 

DeBerry’s success has been featured in Fortune, Time, Money, Newsweek, Essence (Top 50 Women Shaping the World issue), Black Enterprise, and Diversity Inc. and a wide range of other media venues. 

She is an award-winning marketing strategist and author, as well as a sought-after renowned speaker that focuses on global diversity, branding and marketing to optimally position the business and the brand.

She has worked with the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBA, NFL, Jerry Colangelo and on many other high-profile projects. DeBerry has been instrumental in strategic planning for events such as Harvard University Women & Power Conference, the Tri-Congressional Caucus Retreat, Vibe Magazine Music Festival, Jazz In the Gardens as well as creating diversity strategies for the State of Louisiana. 

She has received awards for her outstanding production of the documentary “Walking the Waking Journey”. 

She learned leadership skills and the spirit of winning from her work with the National Football League and the United States Olympic Committee.

Join us for a panel discussion on how to start a business in Texas. Our panel of experts are successful Texas female business owners and executives who will share why Texas is the best state to start a business and will give advice to help you get started. The non-profit organizations represented help individuals write a business plan, gain access to capital, find an accountant, and navigate the process of becoming a women-led business.
